Inspired by Milton Hershey

Last week, I gave my friend a tour of one of the most inspiring places I have visited on the East Coast. We visited Hershey town in Pennsylvania. The visit to Chocolatetown has reminded me again how one man's passion can lead to something great and impactful similar to what Milton Hershey did in the early 1900's. Milton Hershey is the person who started Hershey Chocolate Co., the producer of the famous and beloved chocolates that we now know as Hershey's. Milton had his first taste of success on his 3rd try at starting his business. The rest, as they say, is history. Joining The Trolley tour in Chocolatetown gave me an instant review of how persistent, driven and kind Milton was. From his passion for making chocolates to building schools for the orphans, providing jobs in town, and eventually building a town that provided just the right balance of work and life. Picking up from Derek Jeter's book "The Life You Imagine"

I don't follow baseball. I only heard of Derek Jeter when it was known he dated Mariah Carey in the past. Picking up his autobiography at a used bookstore was so fortuitous. I believe we can be drawn to specifically buy books depending on what we are interested in or questions we need answers for. The title of his book "The Life You Imagine", was a theme that caught my attention. Similar to Quincy Jones, his book had just the right balance of telling a story about his baseball career and relating how his stories and experiences can also be relatable to us. I am drawn to this rare theme I find in an autobiography of how he respects and appreciates what his parents have done for him, how he is constantly observing the right people and choosing his mentors to improve himself every day, and how he has been able to give back to the community at such a young age. Small Wins to Deal with Grief

Absolutely nothing or no one can prepare anyone for a loss of a loved one, in our case, loved ones in a span of one year. It was difficult to find comfort in people's words. We somehow had to lean on the Lord and find some comfort in His words. As a result of the tragic losses, our family has also consulted with a grief counselor. Our grief counselor said that after a loss, people grieve differently and that people go through the stages of grief several times. Elizabeth Kübler-Ross's model of the stages of grief includes Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, and Acceptance. As we try to get back to our lives, and our work, we know we will never be the same again. There continues to be the void we seem to hope to fill. If we continue to ask the whys, the what ifs, we might go crazy. And I know there may never be a substantial answer for us on the whys and the what ifs that the human mind can fathom.
